Title IX and University Policy

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states:

ā€œNo person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.ā€

51³Ō¹Ļapp promotes respect for the dignity and integrity of each person. Members of the university community, guests and visitors have the right to an environment free from all forms of gender and sex-based discrimination and misconduct, examples of which can include acts of sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.

Sexual harassment and sexual violence are forms of discrimination prohibited by Title IX and university policy. The 51³Ō¹Ļapp Gender-Based Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy and Procedures sets forth conduct expectations for our community and provides a process for the reporting, investigation and adjudication of alleged violations. This policy applies to alleged conduct violations of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (i.e., ā€œTitle IX Categoryā€ violations) and also applies to a broader range of contexts and behaviors inconsistent with the universityā€™s commitment to equal opportunity (i.e., ā€œUniversity Standardsā€ violations).

51³Ō¹Ļapp prohibits all forms of gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct and retaliation against people for making or participating in complaints of sex discrimination. All requirements and protections are equitably provided to individuals regardless of such status or status as complainant, respondent, or witness.
