Charlie Doebert, Class of 2023
English Major
Writing and reading make for tough hands and bright minds. And 51³Ō¹Ļappās English Department enlightened me to achieve new heights in both activities. As someone who was never an avid reader and a cultivated writer in high school, Iāve changed my ways miraculously. In fact, Iām now a bookworm and I write until I feel like my fingers are going to fall off.
I wouldn't have the passion and discipline for these activities if it wasn't for this departmentās marvelous job at continually motivating their students to become first-rate communicators, preparing us for when we enter the workforce, the region where professionalism is always prescribed and vital for success and structure.
This is the English Departmentās game plan: constructing authentic connections with their students, to always have character, and telling us to constantly write and read to become finer articulators.
On that note, one trait that the English faculty instilled in me is patience. Patience is a writerās companion. The faculty showed me the importance of utilizing patience in their class discussions and on assignments. This trait also showed me that revising is patienceās tribute while composing any sort of written work. In truth, revising is when writing actually becomes openly harmonious and effortless for readers to read and savor.
As someone whoās going to be a future English teacher, Iām truly fortunate to have had this department guide me through the journey of becoming a dependable leader, a skilled listener in the classroom, and a writer, one who can convey their points and arguments to their audience effectively and uniquely.
I am grateful for working with this department, a magnet of never-ending positivity.
